around the world reacted with shock and disgust at the atrocities committed during the
conflict. Their response was minimal as the war was considered an internal
conflict without any merit for outside intervention. The West also feared a
return to Russia's communist past and felt that it had no other choice but to support Boris
Yeltsin and his pro-West government.
